The fastest way to populate your business across hundreds of citation sites is not manually submitting to each, it's submitting once to the four major data aggregators that feed everyone else. Done correctly, four submissions cascade to 200+ directories within 90 days. Done incorrectly, wrong data spreads just as fast.
In this guide
1. How aggregator distribution works
Aggregators are the Reuters/AP of business data. They license business listings to GPS systems, online directories, voice assistants, and mapping apps. When you submit to an aggregator, your NAP propagates to every customer of that aggregator, typically 50-100+ downstream consumers.
2. The four major US aggregators
Foursquare (powers Apple Maps, Twitter, Snapchat, Square, Tinder, etc.), Data Axle (formerly Infogroup, powers many GPS systems), Localeze (Neustar, powers MapQuest, Yelp, Bing), Factual (now Foursquare, powers Microsoft, AT&T, T-Mobile).
3. Foursquare submission process
Use foursquare.com/business to claim or add your listing. Free for basic listing. Verify via phone or email. Updates propagate to Apple Maps within 7-14 days.
4. Data Axle submission process
Visit dataaxleusa.com/free-listings to add or update. Verification via mailed postcard (10-14 days) or phone. Slowest of the four but feeds the largest network.
5. Localeze submission process
Use neustarlocaleze.biz to claim or submit. $20-$50/year for paid placement; free claim available. Verification via phone within 48 hours.
6. Factual / Foursquare merger implications
Factual was acquired by Foursquare in 2020. Your Foursquare submission now covers what was previously two separate aggregators. One submission, double reach.
7. Common errors that propagate badly
Misspelled business name, wrong category code, abbreviated street type ('St.' instead of 'Street'), missing suite number, inconsistent phone formatting. Errors propagate as fast as correct data, clean your submission carefully before pressing submit.
8. Tracking propagation success
After submitting, wait 60-90 days then re-audit your citation landscape. You should see new listings appear across 50-100+ secondary directories. If not, submission may have failed verification, re-check your aggregator dashboards.
