Google Business Profile Edits Stuck on Pending or Not Approved? What to Do Next

Google Business Profile edit waiting on Pending review, with the matching website details

Short answer

Why are my Google Business Profile edits pending, and what should you do?

Google reviews edits to a verified profile before they go live. It says a review usually takes up to 10 minutes but can take up to 30 days, and customers keep seeing the details Google last approved. Don’t resubmit the same change. Make sure your website and other listings already show the new detail, wait out Google’s window, and if the edit comes back Not approved, appeal it where Google offers that option.

Google decides which edits go live. Nobody outside Google can push an edit through faster.

Statuses

What do Pending, Accepted and Not approved mean?

Google’s help page on what happens to your Business Profile edits lists three statuses:

StatusWhat Google saysWhat to do
AcceptedYour updated information shows on the profile.Check it on Maps from a signed-out browser.
PendingThe edit is still under review. This usually takes 10 minutes, but sometimes up to 30 days.Wait. Do not edit the same field again.
Not approvedGoogle might not approve a change if it can’t confirm it is accurate.Fix the conflicting sources, then appeal if the option is offered.
Why it waits

Why does Google take longer to review some edits?

Google does not publish its review criteria. What it does say is that a move to a new address after verification requires verifying again, and that a business name change might.

So changes to who or where the business is, such as the name, address or primary category, carry more weight than new photos or holiday hours. Several of those changes in one session look like a takeover. Make one change at a time.

A suspended profile is a different problem: edits will not help it. Start with suspension recovery.

Rejections

Why was my edit not approved?

Google’s stated reason is that it couldn’t confirm the change is accurate. In practice that is a mismatch between the edit and what the rest of the web says:

  • The website still shows the old hours, phone number or address.
  • Major directories still list the old details.
  • The new name adds keywords Google does not allow. See the name change suspension fix before it gets worse.
  • The new category does not match what the business actually does.
  • A new address has no signage, or is a mailbox.

Fix the sources first. Our NAP consistency checker request lists the directories that still disagree.

Patience

Should you edit again while a change is pending?

No. The previously approved detail keeps showing while the edit is reviewed, so nothing is lost by waiting.

Google doesn’t say a repeat edit resets the review, but changing the field again gives the reviewer a different edit to check, and a string of edits to the same field is the pattern Google is wary of. Leave it for Google’s stated window of up to 30 days.

Google updates

What if Google changed your details instead?

Google also updates profiles itself. It says it might update your profile if it receives reports that your information isn’t accurate, and that you get a notification and an alert in the Edit profile section.

Google says you have 4 days to accept or reject an update it flags for you; after that it may publish it if other public information, such as your website, supports it. Review those alerts promptly. If the changes come from people suggesting wrong details, see our spam edits fix.

Appeals

How do you appeal a rejected edit?

Google says you might be able to appeal rejected business information edits. Where the option appears, use it once, after the website and listings already show the new detail, and with proof such as a signage photo or registration.

If no appeal option appears, correct the conflicting sources and submit the edit again later, or contact Business Profile support. If the edit triggers a verification request, follow our verification help.

FAQ

Edits pending or not approved: common questions

How long do Google Business Profile edits take to go live?

Google says edits usually take up to 10 minutes to review, but sometimes up to 30 days. Until an edit is approved, customers see the details Google last approved.

Why does Google say my edit was not approved?

Google says it might not approve a change if it can’t confirm that the change is accurate. The usual cause is a mismatch: the website, signage or other listings still show the old detail, or the new detail breaks a guideline, such as keywords added to the name.

Can I appeal a rejected edit?

Sometimes. Google says you might be able to appeal rejected business information edits. Appeal once, with proof that the new detail is correct, after your website and other listings already show it.

What is a Google update on my Business Profile?

It is a change Google makes or proposes to your details, often after reports that the information isn’t accurate. Google notifies you and shows an alert in the Edit profile section. Review it promptly and reject anything wrong.

Can you make Google approve an edit faster?

No. Google reviews every edit itself and publishes no way to speed it up. What we can do is make sure the edit is accurate, consistent with your website and listings, and within Google’s guidelines, so it has nothing to fail on.
