New Google Reviews Not Publishing? How to Tell a Delay From a Filter or a Review Restriction

Updated 9 October 2026

New Google review waiting to publish on a Business Profile

Short answer

Why are new Google reviews not showing on my Business Profile?

Usually one of three things. Google checks reviews against its policies and says this can take a few days. A review that breaks policy is removed, and Google does not restore those. And if Google finds a business broke its fake engagement policy, it can restrict the profile: no new reviews for a set period, existing ones unpublished, or a warning to customers. Each needs a different fix.

Google decides which reviews publish. Nobody outside Google can force a review onto a profile.

The warning

What does the "fake reviews removed" warning mean?

Google’s page on Business Profile restrictions for policy violations says that when it finds a business violated its fake engagement policy, it can remove the reviews involved and restrict the profile. One of the examples it gives is a warning telling customers that fake reviews were removed.

Google says it emails the owner if it plans to apply a restriction, so check the inbox of every account that manages the profile.

Duration

How long does a review restriction last?

Google says restrictions apply for a set period and does not publish how long. Its examples: the profile can’t receive new reviews for a period, existing reviews are unpublished for a period, or a warning appears.

You can appeal. Google says it re-reviews the profile and any context you give, and shares the status once it decides whether to remove the restriction.

Appeal

Can you appeal a review restriction, and what evidence helps?

Yes, from the appeal route Google gives with the restriction. Explain what changed, not just that the reviews were real:

  • How you ask for reviews now: the same message to every customer, after the job, with no incentive.
  • Any vendor, agency or staff scheme that produced reviews, and when it stopped.
  • That you no longer filter who gets asked.

Keep customer records private; describe them, don’t publish them. Our review management service sets up a request flow that stays inside Google’s policy, and our fake review removal page covers attacks from outside.

Re-posting

Does asking customers to re-post help or hurt?

It depends on the cause. If a review is only delayed, posting again adds nothing. If Google removed it for a policy reason, the same content meets the same reason. During a restriction, nobody can post.

The one case where trying again makes sense is a customer whose review never posted because of an outdated phone or app; Google suggests updating Google Maps first. Avoid asking a batch of customers to re-post at once.

Triggers

What triggers a review restriction?

A breach of Google’s fake engagement policy. Google’s review policy bans paying or rewarding customers for reviews, reviews written by owners or staff, and asking only the customers you expect to be happy.

Google does not publish how it detects fake engagement. The safe pattern is to ask every real customer the same way, at a pace your real customer numbers produce. If the whole profile was suspended rather than its reviews restricted, see suspension recovery.

How we fix it

How does GMB Experts handle reviews that won’t publish?

  1. Free diagnosis. We work out whether it is a delay, a removal or a restriction.
  2. Fix the cause. Request flow, vendors and gating checked against Google’s policy.
  3. Appeal where it applies. One restriction appeal, with the context Google asks for.
  4. Rebuild steadily. Genuine reviews at the pace your customers produce.
  5. A straight answer. Reviews Google removed for policy will not come back, and we say so.

FAQ

Reviews not publishing: common questions

How long does it take for a Google review to show up?

Google says it checks reviews against its policies and that in some cases this can take a few days, which can delay a review appearing on your profile. Reviews from a merged profile can also take a few days to show.

Will reviews removed by Google come back?

Not if Google removed them for policy violations; Google says those reviews are not restored. If reviews disappeared after your profile was reinstated, Google asks owners to contact support.

What is a review restriction on a Google Business Profile?

It is a penalty Google can apply when it finds a business violated its fake engagement policy. Examples Google gives: the profile can’t receive new reviews for a set period, existing reviews are unpublished for a set period, or customers see a warning that fake reviews were removed.

Can I appeal a review restriction?

Yes. Google says it emails owners before applying a restriction and that a business can appeal; Google then re-reviews the profile and any context provided and shares the result. Explain what changed in how you ask for reviews.

Can a customer’s review fail because of their phone?

Sometimes. Google says customers on older phones or software may have trouble posting, and suggests they update the Google Maps app and try again.
