Google Account Restricted and Every Business Profile Gone: Account-Level Recovery
Updated 9 October 2026
What should you do when Google restricts your account and every Business Profile disappears?
An account restriction suspends every Business Profile that Google account manages and blocks it from creating or claiming more, so the profile appeals tool will not help yet. Google’s process is two stages: first appeal the account itself from your Google My accounts page, giving the reason and tracking status there; once the restriction is lifted, appeal each profile in the Business Profile appeals tool with matching documents. Find and fix the profile that caused the restriction before either appeal.
Google makes every decision on the account and on each profile. Nobody can promise one, and we do not.
Account restriction vs profile suspension: what’s the difference?
| Profile suspension | Account restriction | |
|---|---|---|
| What is affected | One listing | The Google account’s ability to manage Business Profiles: Google says every profile it manages is suspended |
| New or claimed profiles | The account can still manage others | Google says you cannot create or claim other profiles |
| Where you appeal | The Business Profile appeals tool | Your Google My accounts page, first |
How to tell: a restriction banner when you sign in to Business Profile Manager, an appeals tool that will not let you appeal the profile, or a restriction notice on your My accounts page.
Profiles owned by other accounts in the same business group may keep working if those accounts are not restricted. If only one listing is down, it is a profile suspension; see suspension recovery for a single profile.
Why does one bad profile take down 20 locations?
Google can act on the account, not just the listing, when it sees a pattern. Google does not always say which profile caused it, so check every profile on the account for:
- Several ineligible, duplicate or keyword-stuffed profiles.
- Locations that do not exist or cannot be verified.
- Profiles for businesses the account holder does not own or represent.
Two set-ups run into this most often:
- Agencies. Client profiles verified on one agency Gmail. One client’s violation can restrict the agency’s account, and every client on it goes down too.
- Multi-location brands. Bulk uploads with inconsistent addresses, or placeholder profiles for sites that are not open yet.
Which appeal do you file first?
- Stage 1: the account. Open your Google My accounts page, give a reason and submit the account appeal. Google says you track its status on the same page.
- Stage 2: each profile. Once the restriction is lifted, appeal each Business Profile suspension in the appeals tool, with documents in the same name and address as the profile, inside Google’s 60-minute evidence window.
- More than 10 profiles. Google lets you say the appeal covers more than 10 profiles and attach a spreadsheet with the evidence and the Business Profile ID for each one. The status in the tool only updates for the profile you selected.
Google says appeal reviews and decisions can take up to 5 business days, and asks owners not to submit multiple appeals for the same issue. It publishes no separate timeline for account appeals. If a profile appeal is denied after the account comes back, see what to do if the profile appeal is then denied. If it is still on Submitted instead, see appeal stuck under review.
Can you move profiles to a new Google account instead?
Not while the account is restricted. Google says the restriction stops you creating or claiming other profiles, and new profiles for the same businesses on a fresh account are duplicates. Recreating listings to get around a restriction puts the new account at the same risk.
After reinstatement, fix the structure. Google’s ownership guidelines say only owners or authorized representatives may verify and manage a profile. Move primary ownership to a company-owned account for each brand or location group and keep agencies as managers. If a former agency or employee holds ownership, transfer ownership to a company account first.
What evidence does Google want for an account appeal?
The account appeal asks for a reason. Make it specific:
- Which profile or profiles broke which guideline.
- What you removed or fixed.
- That every remaining profile represents a real business you own or are authorized to manage.
Remove the offending profiles, or mark them for removal, before you file stage 1. For stage 2, prepare per-profile documents (a registration, license or utility bill) in the exact name and address of each listing. With more than 10 profiles, build the spreadsheet before you open the tool.
How do agencies and multi-location operators avoid this?
- One Google account or business group per client or brand. Agency staff are managers, never primary owners.
- 2-Step Verification on every owner account, and access removed the day someone leaves.
- A quarterly check of every profile for name, address and category drift.
- No placeholder or pre-opening profiles for locations that do not exist yet.
Brands can hand this to multi-location GBP management; agencies managing client profiles can use white-label management for agencies.
How does GMB Experts handle an account restriction?
- Free diagnosis. We list every profile on the account and look for the profiles most likely to have caused the restriction.
- Clean up. Offending profiles are fixed or removed before any appeal goes in.
- Stage the appeals. A specific reason for the account appeal, then per-profile evidence, with the spreadsheet for more than 10 profiles.
- Restructure. Ownership moved to company accounts, agencies and staff as managers.
- A straight answer. If we think some profiles will not come back, we say so in the diagnosis.

Google account restricted: common questions
What does “your account has been restricted” mean for Google Business Profile?
Google has restricted the Google account itself, not just one listing. Google says that as a result, the Business Profiles you manage are suspended and you cannot create or claim other profiles. Profile-level appeals will not work until the account restriction is lifted.
Where do I appeal a restricted account?
On your Google My accounts page. Google says you can provide a reason and submit an appeal for your account there, and track the appeal’s status on the same page. Once the restriction is lifted, you appeal each Business Profile separately in the appeals tool.
I manage more than 10 profiles. Do I appeal each one?
Google’s appeals tool lets you say the appeal covers more than 10 profiles and attach a spreadsheet with the evidence and the Business Profile ID for each one. Note that the status shown in the tool only updates for the profile you selected; the others are not tracked there.
Can I just create the profiles again under a new Google account?
No. New profiles for the same businesses are duplicates, and recreating listings to get around a restriction puts the new account at the same risk. Fix the cause, appeal the account, then the profiles, and move ownership to properly structured accounts afterwards.
How long does an account restriction appeal take, and is reinstatement guaranteed?
Google says appeal reviews and decisions can take up to 5 business days, and it publishes no separate timeline for account appeals. Nothing is guaranteed: Google makes every decision. We tell you in the free diagnosis if we think some profiles will not come back.
Updated 9 October 2026. Account restrictions, the My accounts appeal, the appeals tool, the 60-minute evidence window and the spreadsheet route for more than 10 profiles are described from Google's Help Center page on fixing suspended or disabled profiles as it read in October 2026.
